iXBRL
MESA brings financial and sustainability digital disclosure into a single Agentic AI module, within the Agentic Disclosure platform. One data source, two taxonomies, end-to-end control.
The Challenge
iXBRL tagging is the stage where financial and sustainability disclosure becomes compliant with regulatory requirements and readable by regulators. With the CSRD, the process extends from the ESEF financial statements to the Sustainability Statement under the ESRS taxonomy, increasing both complexity and scope.
Managing constantly evolving taxonomies, numerous ESG datapoints and complex validation rules makes tagging a critical activity, often concentrated in the last mile of the process and subject to intense operational pressure.
In this scenario, the risk of errors, misalignments and non-compliance increases. Tagging can no longer be handled as a separate activity; it requires an integrated and governed approach across the entire disclosure process.
The MESA approach
MESA integrates iXBRL tagging into the Agentic Disclosure module: the same environment where the contents of the integrated report are produced, reviewed and approved. Tagging is no longer a downstream activity, but a native stage of the reporting process.
Thanks to Agentic AI, the system supports both tagging and review activities, suggesting mappings consistent with the ESEF and ESRS taxonomies and checking data quality. The process remains user-governed, with approval workflows and full traceability of decisions.
The Solution
Four functional areas, one single workflow — from the taxonomy to the signed iXBRL package.
MESA imports and keeps the ESEF (ESMA) and CSRD/ESRS (EFRAG) taxonomies up to date, managing their versions, rules and structures centrally. Entities, dimensions, labels and base calculation links are governed in a single environment, with multilingual support and no dependency on IT projects.
AI agents suggest tagging for financial and sustainability data, understanding the document context and reducing reliance on specialist XBRL skills. The system learns from user decisions and reuses historical tagging, speeding up subsequent cycles.
Automated controls ensure consistency of calculations, correct use of signs, scales and dimensions, as well as compliance with ESMA and EFRAG rules and XBRL standards. Errors are identified and corrected before the filing is generated.
Every tagging and validation activity is tracked by user, role and timestamp. The workflow guides the process through to the signing of the final package, ensuring full auditability and support for auditor and regulator reviews.
The MESA proposition at a glance
A single data source that feeds the Annual Report, the Sustainability Statement and the iXBRL filing, ensuring consistency across content, figures and published versions. The integration of structured data and narrative eliminates manual reconciliations, reduces the risk of misalignments and ensures a continuous, reliable and compliant disclosure process.
